New Principal named at Hardy

I don't ever recall hearing a parent talk in terms of having several children. Usually they will give the exact number.

You don't get out enough . . .

There is a subset of parents on Cap Hill who are very invested in the success of Jefferson. Admitting that the principal candidates are weak is the same as admitting defeat.

The DCPS principal candidates last year were appalling. I have no reason to believe that this year will be any better.

Ladies and geltleman, Mr. Cranky-Pants who is part of the Conspiracy subset is in the house.

Lots of parents deeply care about the success of lots of schools. But, if you think flowery language will convince parents to send their kid to an MS then you have another thing coming.

When we parents read about Hardy nabbing Dr. Stefanus, some of the parents I am in touch with from the panel were bummed we didn't get her, and some were okay with it. Nobody is strident about the issue. but then again, maybe we are not discerning enough for your tastes.

Nope, it's Mr. Snarky-Pants.

Cranky-Pants is the one who is upside in his house and is stuck sending his kids to Jefferson.

You'd have to be pretty desperate to want to work in a system where the real estate is high, and the contract is for one year and there's a history principals being fired on short notice. Who would move their family here under such conditions?

She also interviewed at the Cluster School. She was not the right fit for us, she was nervous at the interview. Glad that Hardy thought she might be the right fit.

I wonder what the order of the interviews was and if she became more confident as time went on.

I also wonder if she was actively recruited by DCPS or if she responded to an ad.

I bet she was recruited. I wouldn't be at all surprised if DCPS went looking for recently retired principals without family obligations who could come here without risking their future.

It would be a smart move -- but a very cynical one, suggesting that they know a stint at DCPS could be a real career stopper.

She even had a kind of special position among men: she was an exception, she fitted none of the categories they commonly used when talking about girls; she wasn't a c***-teaser, a cold fish, an easy lay or a snarky bitch; she was an honorary person. She had grown to share their contempt for most women.

Mr. Crank-pants, are you freaking kidding me??? The panel was open only to those who had vested interest in Jefferson i.e, Ward 6. This was not the Eastern High School principal panel, where the entire city was invited to participate in the selection process.

So, these so-called discussions must have happened on the list-serve. I was present and I let my opinion be known that the last candidate was the best fit for Jefferson.

To here that people were bummed, just shows me that there were people who were bonding together to get who "they" wanted and disregard others input.

I wondered why there hasn't been announcement about the Jefferson's position and I see why. It was because Genreal Cranky-pants has assembeled an army to disregard the other candiates.

For the life of me I can't see why the current principal can't be tasked with phasing in the new school.

I ranked the last candidate as my first choice too –that doesn’t square with your narrative. I kibitz with other parents and have no influence on the selection process. All three candidates were strong and parent participants were split in their preferences. The process was open – no criteria for participation. Here’s the text of the notice for your reference:

If we had Hardy as an option in its current state I'd take it.

10:56, I was just stating the obvious of General Cranky Pants that it was NOT a high percentage saying Dr. S was the best. Oooo the last part rhymes.

But I must admit and I have seen it for myself that DCPS has greatly improved on the principal panel process. I can't really say the improvement on candidates is a success as you only as good as your interview. But you only last as long as your most recent reference.

I will say it again, when a school system can't cultivate their own to operate schools, the failure is not the poor choices of outside applicants. You do remember that Jefferson had two Assistant Principals present at the process? I went immediately to them to figure out why they didn't apply for a position within their school. Their outlook on DCPS was almost predictable.
