Maybe it's still Bush's deficit

I think you sell him a bit short. Let's not forget, the Republicans voted in favor of these ridiculous cripplingly expensive tax cuts, and beat the drum of war without exception. So no, it's not really Bush's fault. He was merely carrying out mainstream Republican policies--policies that have put our country in the shitter.

Thanks GOP!

Now let's get back to blaming it all on Obama...

That's a really, really silly answer. The question is whether key policies of Bush have lasting impact on our future. If I buy a house or car that I can't afford, that affects my financial picture for decades afterward. Why is it so unreasonable to think that of a President?

The fact is that we don't get back the money from the Iraq war and it is extremely difficult to turn back the clock on things like taxes or say the medicare drug plan, which is huge and isn't even shown on this graph.

I don't consider that answer to be silly at all. I think it's ridiculous and unreasonable to hear the constant bashing of Bush by liberals. I feel the same way when conservatives constantly bash Obama. Key policies of any president can have a long-lasting effect, but certain presidents are like lightning rods for those of the opposing party--Nixon, Carter, Bush, and Obama. There are a lot of other elected officials in this country who are also responsible for decisions that affect us.

Yes, let's never forget that policies have no consequences whatsoever, and that, you know, who can say who's responsible for anything anyway. Granted Bush and the GOP pushed this shit thorough on a straight party-line vote, and it's crippling our country, but, hey, let's just spout some empty platitudes and wave our hands.

Let's be absolutely clear: you and folks who share this kind sloppy, irrational middle-brow bullshit thinking are destroying the country. Can't wait to see which asshole you elect next, and for which non-sensical reason.

You're right, the last thing we want to do is ever look back and understand why we're in the fucking mess we're in. Let's not look back; let's look forward! Let's FIX it!!!

You know, that republican dude who wants to cut taxes even further, get us into a hot war against Libya, and eliminate Medicare's got some good ideas. Let's try those! Seriously, sometimes when I read stuff like this, I can't wait til we drive this country further into the shitter. Hopefully at some point we'll end up like modern-day Italy, or Spain, and we'll be too depleted to do any more harm.

You're right that the 'who' may not be relevant to fixing it, but the 'what' certainly is. As OP, I am willing to rephrase the subject line as "Maybe it's still the Tax Cut/War deficit". Is that better?

No. It's irrelevant. This is why nothing gets done. The reality of the situation is that we are in a major financial crisis. We are over spending and have been for way to long whether it is bush's fault that we are in this situation doesn't matter. He's gone, and won't be in office again, now lets deal with the problem .

Oh, for FUCK'S SAKE! Are you too fucking stupid to read a graph? Seriously?

If Bush and the GOP had not pushed through the tax cuts and launched two disastrous wars, we'd be looking at the financial crisis. That's it. You can see the status quo (i.e. "over spending") right there in gray. Spending is projected to fall. So yes, let's attack spending. Rather than extending the tax cuts. Or ending the ruinous wars. Is this really how people think. Just incapable of seeing the root of the problems even when they're laid out in front of you in full color. Staggering.
