I agree. I could turn up dressed as one or all of the Village People. If my lawyer didn't take me seriously I would fire his/her ass.

Dress as a professional adult and jeans, no matter how "dressy" you think they are, are not professional attire unless you are a farmer or blue collar worker. I had someone dress in "dressy" jeans for an interview and this is one of the reasons I didn't hire her.

Yup. If you want the lawyer to take you seriously, dress nicely. A suit is not necessary.

If the lawyer doesn't take you seriously based on your clothing you should get a new lawyer.

Never kid yourself, what you wear is important and you are judged, like it or not, by this.

Whoever judges me for what I wear doesn't deserve my attention, consideration, money, time or any other thing coming from me.

Another lawyer here who doesn't give a crap what you wear. For your own self esteem and comfort you should probably wear something neat and clean that matches, and maybe not sweats, but other than that it really doesn't matter. If you're writing the check your lawyer will take you seriously no matter what you wear.

OP here. Thanks for the responses! I ended up in a skirt, saw plenty of other clients in jeans, my lawyer wore a suit. Appreciate all the good advice. I think the lawyer would have given me the same advice had I worn jeans, but I felt more environment-appropriate in the skirt.
