And not having morning sickness can meana healthy pregnancy too (I never had it with DD). Don't worry and stay positive. The best advice a dr friend of mine gave me was -- "If crack heads who are not in anyway trying to take care of themselves can carry a baby to term, there is no reason for you to worry." It's true!

Small chance but it does happen - it did to me twice. Best not to worry about things you cant control and instead think positive. If you have a history of loss or problems then your OB may rec sonos before the NT. Mine did, but again it doesn't matter. That was just monitoring my loss.

Ask your OB for another US if it will give you peace of mind. Maybe around 8-9 weeks. All they can do is say no...but they probably won't.

Per my OB, and granted this was over 3 years ago, the statistics re lowered incidence of miscarriage after a heartbeat reflect actually HEARING the heartbeat with a stethescope, not seeing it on an ultrasound. That said, the odds are in your favor. I have had two children and two miscarriages, I agree with the poster that said that miscarriages are, in most cases, the result of your body terminating a not viable pregnancy, meaning your body is doing what it is supposed to do and it is not indicative of whether you will have a pregnancy go to term in the future.

I saw a strong heartbeat twice, was told less than a 5% chance of miscarriage. Was diagnosed with a missed miscarriage at around 11 weeks, baby measured around 9 1/2 weeks. Fetal testing showed a chromosomal abnormality from birth (Turners Syndrome). My doctor said most chromosomal abnormalities will not make it past 10 weeks. Don't worry about it. Once you get to the NT testing you can assume you are in the clear.

I was told by a doctor during my 6 week ultrasound that it was very rare to have a miscarriage after seeing a strong heartbeat. (I don't remember the criteria for strong but you could ask your OB because I think they record that during the US) ... I wanted to know this because I had had 2 miscarriages and was very concerned. I went on to have a full term healthy babies after seeing strong heartbeats at 6 weeks.

I had one miscarriage and we never saw the heartbeat.

For those who have had a miscarriage after seeing the heartbeat... how old are you? I have friends who are older than me who have had this happen but it seems rarer for younger friends. Is age a factor in this, given the chromosomal defects related to age?
