Have you ever gone against what the Historic board said you could do in a DC renovation?

I wish my new neighborhood had a MUCH stronger historic board...they are mowing down houses and building McMansions on tiny lots left and right!

I lived in Georgetown and there is a reason that neighborhood has so much character and charm...just like Oldtown.

Generally---things in back of the house (not seen from street view) are easier to change...and easier to get permits for. As a neighbor of yours-- I wouldn't give a crap if you took down a garage to have more yard space. Truthfully--it would prob look better anyways..and how historic was that garage anyways?

Things inside the house are even easier to change (sneak around permits if you are so inclined)...I am all for a historic shell with a more modern inside.
