I, too, used to be a Republican -- back when I thought they stood for fiscal responsibility and NOT for religion, prying into people's sex lives, and unscientific idiocy. I remember thinking, at one time, Republicans were generally smart, well-educated, and thought people could make their own decisions about their own lives (how is telling people who they can and can't marry/have sex with NOT creating a nanny state?). Anyone remember Goldwater? I'll bet Palin doesn't even know who that is...
Liberal through and through now. Lesser of two evils, IMO. |
There are lots of people I know in that boat. FIL who was a Goldwater Republican. His position is that he has to choose the lesser of two evils: a government that has its hand in your wallet vs. one that has its hand in your shorts. |
I very much believe the poster could be a Republican. I typically (not always) vote Republican, and I completely agree with the post. |
Carl Schurz said of his adopted country, America, "My country, right or wrong; if right, to be kept right; and if wrong, to be set right." There are Republicans with a similar feeling about their party. Perhaps it would be rephrased as "My party, right or too far right; if right, to be kept right; and if too far right, to be set right." |
What a shock. Obama voted present with UBL in our sights. Who could make up such a thing? |
The people who said he was born in Kenya. And produced his Kenyan birth certificate. |
