As a non-driver, I don't find shuttles from Metro stations other than my own very helpful in situations where the parent needs to pickup or drop off the DCs at the Metro. BTDT with summer camp. Even when the ride isn't long (mine was less than 20 minutes), there's a lot of dead time (shuttle is late, have to get there early because can't rely on Metro to be on schedule), usually in places where you don't have a comfortable at-rest position (e.g. parking lot).
Shuttles are great when DC is old enough to travel solo, but until then, you're probably better off with other options (e.g. schools walkable from Metro stops, schools with bus routes to your neighborhood, schools on Metrobus routes that connect to home or work).
