How many think EL Haynes lost their application?

Anonymous
Someone proposed an excellent suggestion in another thread. Take the names of any applicant whose number didn't make it in to the pool and hold a lottery just for them. Instead of drawing their numbers out of the pool, draw lottery places (if there were 400 applicants, then have 400 numbers in the pool and whichever number you draw for the applicant is their new number). So, if the applicant gets #150 then that becomes their waitlist number, and everyone on the original list at 150 and below drops down one.

But really, if you want a solution to the problem (whether it's a new, ersatz lottery like this or for the Charter Board to send them a "shame on you" letter - which is all that will happen) DCUM can't solve it for you. You will need to make an appointment with someone at the actual school (not a receptionist, one of the principals) and go tell them. Or, go tell the Charter Board. Complaining about here may be cathartic, but it won't help you.

I did not follow-up our application email with a phone call to confirm receipt, although in the email I asked them to please confirm receipt which they did not. In fact, I send dozens of important emails every day and I generally don't follow up those emails with a phone call to make sure the email was received. Jebus, isn't that the point of sending it via email in first place?

I think they lost ours as well. I did get a confirmation that they received the application, but I never heard back regarding our waitlist spot at all!

This is our situation as well. Have others received information about their waitlist numbers?

I have not received any official confirmation about our waitlist number via email or regular mail, but called to find out my daughter's waitlist number.

OP here. I had never posted before about this, but like my original post said, i was shocked to see the discussion on the previous thread. I started a new thread ONLY to try to get a rough count of the people ON DCUM who may be in a similar situation. I didn't ask for sympathy and I didn't mention anything about trying to get the lottery redone. I just want to know what happened.

Thanks to those of you who posted an actual answer to the query. To those of you who haven't heard back officially, I suggest you call. They will most likely tell you your WL# on the phone.

What is bugging me at this point about this situation is that OP has complained about this on several DCPS/Charter forum threads and it's obvious she wants to make a play for having Haynes throw out their lottery results, which won't happen. You'd probably have better luck filing a legitimate complaint with the charter board or by getting a local paper to report a story about your situation than by trying to get people on a blind message board to say "me too!"

not true - I made the play for having the results thrown out and I am not the OP

My child was placed in the wrong class' lottery. Haynes has been friendly and responsive, although I still don't know what they're going to do about it.

I don't think they lost very many apps. In the end, it was a lot of repeat posting and possibly misspelled names.

Good luck!

Maybe the "wrong class" and "misspelling" applications were actually lost.

Not true in my case. We were put in the wrong class. We checked on the list which is posted in the hall of the school and detected the error there. Our application, I assume, was never lost!

By the way, I dropped it off in person.

Good for you. I wonder how many of the folks casting aspersions on this board have even bothered to drop by the school and look for their kids' names on the list.

Pp, I wonder too. I certainly hope anyone with continuing concerns will do so.
