Have you tried antidepressants?

My experience is pretty similar to 22:36. My DH had suffered from depression for years and it took a lot of counseling (individual and couples) for him to accept there was a problem and then agree to medication. He used Wellbutin very successfully with few negative side affects - the was one unexpected positive side effect, his desire for cigarettes diminished greatly and he was able to quit smoking. After a few years, he went off, was off for a few years but then needed to go back on medication. Wellbutrin didn't do it for him any more. He ended up on Cymbalta and it's really made a significant difference. It is hell being with someone who's depressed and if he hadn't gotten it under control, we would be divorced by now. The unfortunate side effect is that while erections aren't a problem, he has trouble ejaculating. It's frustrating for him but he says he feels so much better now that his depression is under control that it's worth the trade off.

15:06 again. I forgot to mention that when DH went off the Wellbutrin, he eventually started started smoking again. He wasn't able to quit sucessfully until he went on Cymbalta.

I was prescribed Celexa last year and within an hour of taking it I had the most awful headache, felt light-headed and nauseated, had double vision, and was unable to string a sentence together. My husband had to come home from work to take care of our children. It took about 48 hours for the effect to completely wear off and I couldn't chance taking it again.
