Questions for my new neighbors - Purple Line - Chevy Chase Lake Development

The Purple Line as proposed will increase traffic on Connecticut Avenue and around Chevy Chase Lake because the county proposes to allow high-density commercial development there at the behest of the Chevy Chase Land Company.

Think of Tyson's Corner.

NP here. I agree with this. If I thought the PL would ease traffic, I'd support it. However, I think it will only make things worse.

It's ironic that the Chamber of Commerce is advocating for a Maryland tax increase of $800 million annually to raise new money for transportation projects like the Purple Line. Hasn't the chamber regularly championed lower taxes?

Lower taxes for their corporation supporters, perhaps.

But when the tax is on regular taxpayers - at the pump - and goes to subsidize big corporate developments, increased congestion, density and urbanization, gosh, they're all for it. What hypocrites.

Say no to the Purple Line - it's a foot-in-the-door for more congestion and urbanization. And at $1.6 billion (and probably more), sponsored by more taxes, it's a bad deal.

I am a resident of Chevy Chase proper, and I resent the implications that we are "monied" and somehow "out-of-touch".

I understand perfectly well - and probably better than many people in North Chevy Chase - the need for improved transport so that cleaners, nannies etc. can get to work in Bethesda from Silver Spring. It just seems to me that an improved bus service would be a much more cost-effective and appropriate way to achieve this, without destroying a lovely bike path and bisecting a golf course which is actually enjoyed by a truly diverse mix of people.
