you are an idiot...of course if there is violence they should call the police...I just find it distrubing that Sandburg is an environment where they need to call the police on 13 yr olds and that people think that is the norm...

I call BS on this as well. No one other than this poster has called the incident at Sandburg "the norm."

You do know your kids are going to the whitest elementary school in the county, right?

You do know that *this* is the reason why I think sending my kids to Sandburg is a good idea? I get that WW is white. Trust me, I'm not exactly pleased with it, but am somewhat happier to know that by the time they get to middle school, it will be a different experience.

I was commenting on the poster who is going from WW to private b/c they were worried about ONE incident at Sandburg. They aren't fooling anybody. They want their little kids to stay insulated from anybody who doesn't fit their little mold (white, middle class).

It's one thing to avoid Sandburg, it's another to avoid Waynewood because of Sandburg. You're right, that's kind of odd.

On the other hand, as a Waynewood parent, I still think you lose the right to complain about people wanting to avoid diversity.

My friends were the one who fought it started with another mob of kids that broke one of my friends Window and the neighbor told him who was it that broke his window. The next day My friend grabs his friends ( Hispanic but not in gangs) they looked for the person to get revange. They Assaulted the other kids witch were two 14 yr. Olds and one 13 yr. Old. I was there at the moment when they were arguing but I left to the next bus stop to avoid any problems. I then realize that police have found out about the argument. People spread a rumor about one of my friends having a gun in his locker (false report), then another rumor was said about more people with drugs and that were involved in gangs were coming to help my friends beat up the other kids (never happened). Carl Sandburg has had gang violence after school but that has not been reported. I have been thru all the drama and not one good thing has happened in that school from my point of view!!!

I read in our local Mt Vernon paper's police log this weekend that on March 15th the police were called to Sandburg Middle School and arrested I think 4 kids ages 13-15 for "mob assault" on a couple of other kids. This seems like more than a hallway fight if the police were called and kids were arrested.

Does anyone have any insight into what happened there? Is this an isolated incident or not surprising.

We are currently deciding if we want to send our child to pubilc or private school and I have always had concerns about Sandburg, but now this makes me really concerned.

Thanks!
Okay i am a student from carl sandburg there was a fight between 2 kids then 2 others jump in and did a mob assult they entered the school looking for 2 other students and then they found one student wich was attack by 2 of my close friends and then after that we all ran down the hall then another student was punched in his face by another student and then the cops were called.

Just curious, pp, how did you find out about this website? I'd be interested in knowing how many kids read it.

There are many benefits to a Catholic Education - I had one and I am not white and I am a public school teacher. Honestly, I would never send my kids to public school - too much testing and not enough instruction. Also, teachers are too busy playing school politics.

My DH has worked in both public and private schools and there is just as much or more school politics in the private schools as there is in the public schools.

Suburbanization of poverty. In ten years, this is going to be pretty common in the suburbs as the District trends middle-class. Violence and dysfunction grows in the neighborhood schools, so those neighborhoods become less desirable for middle class parents, and affordable for the very poor.

It's the flip-side of the well-publicized dynamic that's happening in the District.

So when will TC Williams get off the state's shit list and DCUMers send their kids to a DCPS school other than School Without Walls/Ellington/Banneker/Wilson?
