All My so-called "friends" are GOP/Tea baggers

Teabagger/Republicans actually sicken me. Their sense of moral order actually causes me to question their humanity. I am a German American with relatives who were actual Nazis. I have seen in some of my (currently living, non Nazis) relatives, such a capacity for hatred that yes, it sickens me.

Agree. The people I know who hold these extreme-right beliefs don't seem to have the capacity to visualize the world they say they want for themselves. Looks pretty dismal to me.

Those are protests. Very different context (obviously).

No, I think OP is right. There are limits. It's one thing to disagree with someone and it's another to have differences that are so major that they make you sick.

Really? Their views make you sick? They aren't killing puppies and punching babies for pete's sake.

You see, in the narrow mindset of the teabagger, the only thing that could make a person objectionable would be "punching a baby or killing puppies". Pretty much everything else is fair game to them.

Why do you right wingers displace your hatred of everyone else by fetishizing embryos and unwanted puppies?

OP here, call me what you will but their views on the world make me see what heartless, ruthless people they are and frankly, I would rather talk to strangers at the park then go out of my way to spend time with them. They may not be puppy killers, but they are bigots, full of hate and intolerance for anyone who doesn't fit their mold.

the hate and intolerance I see here is from the OP and the left.

the anger and hatred is often from the left. Did you see the idiot congressmen yesterday comparing today's KKK to Al Queda as far as terrorism threats? Did you see the unhinged wingnuts in Wisconsin calling for the death of the Governor?

If you're a Tea Party/Glen Beck type, I simply don't believe that you have rational left friends.

If you're not, I'll acknowledge some unfair prejudice. I've been friends with reasonable Republicans, who voted for, say, Dole, and maybe Bush the first time. After that, the only people I knew personally or saw who still supported him were completely ignorant or completely nuts - people who would say things like "Bush's father balanced the budget" or "If Al Gore had won none of us would have cars anymore" (actual quotes).

The Republicans I knew who retained their minds hated Bush. And they didn't have to stick with their party, because the Dems are the new Reps anyway. If you're a 90s Rep, your views are perfectly supported by mainstream Dems. (If you're a 70s Rep, you're on the fringe left, according to current Reps.)

So, if you're Republican, I generally assume that you're of the insane variety, since there was no good reason to stick with your party through all of the insanity. I'll admit that that's a little unfair, but I have better things to do than sift through the mountain of Republican dung to find an occasional gem.

A perfect post is a thing of beauty.

Did you see the unhinged governor of Wisconsin callng for the death of 50 years of rights for the working class and middle class?

Here's a twist: some of my very close relatives identify with the tea bagging / Glen Beck brand of hate. Like, my father.

Who was previously totally apolitical but then in retirement discovered forwarded wing-nut emails and the internet. wtf?! THIS is what inspired his first-in-his-life political awakening?

This sickens me AND I can't just turn it off, like I could with a former friend that I just drop.

(Lots of shocking posts on FB from people I thought were normal.)

ITA. FB has really opened my eyes to the ugliness of some of the opinions my friends hold.

I think that politics reflect values. And the Tea Party values of homophobia and xenophobia are not OK with me. The destruction of the middle class to preserve tax breaks for the rich is not OK with me. Ceasing to fund reproductive care for poor women, not OK. Finding ways to limit access to legal abortion, not OK. Holding hearings into Muslims because Muslim = terrorist, not OK. These things are about fundamental values and if your and my values are so far skewed apart from each other than I do find it hard to imagine how we can be friends. REAL friends, as opposed to people who only talk about sports and weather so they don't have to acknowledge the views of the other.

I can tolerate my Conservative, Fox watching, Beck reading, Limbaugh listening father in law because we avoid talking to each other. I wouldn't call that a real friend.
