Any chance the OOB lottery results will come available at midnight?

If this infuriates you, I predict you won't last a hot minute in DCPS. Welcome to my world!

Hey 13:34 I am in your world. Two kids in DCPS, been dealing with the system since 2006, hence my annoyance.

I agree it's frustrating, but hey, at least it's centralized so that there's supervision, thus reducing the temptation for principals to "game" the system to let in favored applicants

why is anyone surprised? it takes some time to make sure the VIPs "lottery" in to the right schools.

After 3 years of dealing with DCPS I am pretty results won't be posted until tomorrow. Or do yoou seriously believe anyone at DCPS will work until 9 pm tonight to fix the "technical difficulties"?

I called and they said around 6pm.

Hmm. I wonder how many DCPS employees work past 6pm?

It's just like when you call a city office and are told that your call will be returned in 24 hours - as if - some of those calls have NEVER been returned let alone within 24 hours. It wouldn't make me so mad if it wasn't promised in the first place. Not to mention, the delay and report of "technical difficulties" make me wonder if we can count on the results being truly random or fair. But then again, what's fair about a lottery system like this....

Except it's not like that at all. You're not trying to procure some service or get an answer to a pressing question. Put another way, what difference in your life will it make if you get the results tomorrow morning rather than this morning? Answer - none at all, unless you allow it to drive up your blood pressure. Relax, already.

And what's fair about the lottery system? Well, it allows OOB kids a chance to get into different schools if space is available. You would prefer there was no OOB lottery, students could only attend their own local school, without any choice? That's more fair?

i rarely write things like this, but....will the all of the inflexible, complaining whiners please just stop?! get a grip.

I think the point (and I say this as someone who is not actually in the lottery, so I'm pretty sure I'm not one of the "inflexible, complaining whiners") is that it is supremely annoying when an entity under-delivers on its commitments.

Had they said "the information will be available by noon on the 4th" then they wouldn't have annoyed so many people by failing to meet expectations.

We're actually dealing with two problems here: one is the lottery process itself and its attendant anxiety, the other the management of expectations with respect to communicating information. While frustration with the former may be unavoidable, frustration with the latter shouldn't be.

Welcome to DCPS: setting the bar low, and still failing to clear it.

Again, why is the lottery a problem?

yeah, but. The lottery system has changed a bit over the past four years, but it's not changed at all from last year to this year. And last year results were prompt. So what's the deal this year? I'm not sitting on the edge of my seat - in fact I thought it was tomorrow, not today, until I just clicked over and saw this thread. So that fact that it's not different than last year and yet it's not working smoothly does not inspire confidence in the results, you know?

I agree that it's annoying. If I were running it, I would give the employees one deadline (March 3rd) and the applicants another (March 4th).

However... how many people are relying on this lottery, and not hedging their bet with charter school applications? This lottery doesn't really matter to me right now. Yes, it will be nice to have ONE option firmed up, but we won't be making a final decision til all the charter lottery results are in.

the e-mail that i received in response to my lottery application did say that the scores would be online on march 4th. i only found out yesterday that the scores are suppose to be available today.

also, do you guys think the lottery is fair? do you think they manipulate the numbers once the lottery is complete to keep students closer to where they live? just asking?
