NCRC - Worth the Hype?

The playground at NCRC is MUCH bigger than any other preschool playground we've seen (all in DC). It is our first choice for that, and several other reasons. No idea how good our chances are, how many slots they have for a biracial boy, or when we'll find out...

NCRC is the gold standard for inclusive programs and they provide a top notch preschool education to every child there. I think having kids learn side by side with children who face developmental challenges is once of the best gifts you can give your child because he/she learns we are all people with strengths, challenges and values. The faculty is impressive and some of the assistant teachers are in graduate special education programs. They truly know there stuff and don't make any false promises. They have an OT and ST on staff. If at any time you have concerns about your typically developing child they are there to consult. We visited several inclusive programs a while back and it really was the most impressive one we saw.

I meant "their" not there.

St Columba's playground could eat NCRC's playground for breakfast.

Great school, warm and friendly, diverse, nurturing, fun and disciplined all at the same time. And great exmissions. Yes, worth the hype in my book. Couple of mean moms, but that is not the norm by any means.

We have really enjoyed the school, but agree there is a lot of hype. I do find it a bit over the top with all the discussion about curriculum and skills for 3yos but when you are paying 12-25k a year it can be reassuring knowing everything has been thought through! We also went to the Gan at Adas Israel and had an equally good experience with very similar Reggio-like play-based approaches. If you get in, it is a convenient location, and you can afford NCRC -- go for it. Otherwise there are many good public DC school options for 3yo's and up IMO.
