Look at their website from time to time. One of their reporters is a friend of mine from college - Josh Rushing, the blue eyed blond haired Texan. |
For those who don't know, this guy is very interesting. As I recall he was the Marines' spokesman during the invasion of the Gulf and his relationship (or lack thereof) with Al Jazeera was documented in "The Control Room." He really came across as having a lot of integrity. He ended up working for Al Jazeera later. |
Wait, isn't that the evil propaganda network that our Dear Leader told us not to watch several years ago? And that no decent patriot should countenance its existence? How can you call yourself an American? Or am I thinking of MSNBC? |
One good thing is that they don't have to dumb down reporting to an audience that knows next to nothing about the region. They can actually discuss political figures, ethnic or political groups within a country. It is not like a US news cast that has to put everyone into a few dtereotyped buckets or focus on one key figure. |
Agree. The American people's general capacity for discourse is pathetic. CNN may as well be called the "Children's News Network", and my 4 year old's intelligence is insulted whenever we come across an idiot box with Fox News coming out of it. Have you ever seen CNN International? The difference between the international version and the one targeted at the cud-chewing morons of middle-America is a source of shame every time I leave the damned country. USA! USA! USA! |
fabulous news source! |
Such a shame, isn't it?! Too bad we have all these middle America types in this country who just couldn't possibly process, comprehend, and appreciate the higher-level versions of news that you and the citizens of other countries are able to understand. |
Hey look, it is what it is. You can get offended all you want, but at the end of the day, all you need to do is look at CNN International and CNN "domestic". Your average American has the political savvy of a North Korean. Our media reflects that. The only difference is our news-readers have nicer hair-styles, and we're complacent enough to sit through more commercials. Moooo! |
IOW, we're not incapable. We're just too lazy and complacent.
Which, come to think of it, is infinitely worse. |
Did anyone ever watch the Lisa Ling documentary on North Korea? (It's on Netflix Instant if you're interested).
It's a fascinating glimpse inside North Korea and shows the extensive brainwashing and non-thinking nationalism not too dissimilar from a certain Fox-watching segment of our society.... |
Pps who watch AJ, do u have middle eastern roots / connection? Just wondering, I'm originally from ME, and watch here a bit as well. |
I was the OP, and no, I don't. |
Another PP here. Egyptian. |
Have been on the edges of Palestinian politics for a long time but I don't personally have a connection to the Middle East - just a strong interest. |
I am not, but western press coverage is written fOr people who have next to no knowledge about the internal affairs of ME countries. How could we discuss american politics without mentioning politicians like John Boehner or Harry Reid or movements like the tea party or PACs or interest groups? |
