Tall mom here. The Gap pants were always falling down on me. The belly panel was just never right on any of them. I personally liked motherhood better.
OP, I think you just need to try the different brands and see what works for your body type. |
I'm 5'9" and also had good luck w/ stretchy non-maternity dresses from Target. i was able to wear them well into my 3t and they were great for PP -- I wore them almost every day b/c most were faux wrap so were good for nursing. The fabric is kind of cheap, but they cost like $20, so you get what you pay for. I also found a few longer dresses at Motherhood maternity. I think you can get away with a slightly shorter dress if you pair w/ opaque tights and flats. |
I'm only 5'8", but if you work downtown you should go by H&M. Some of the stuff might be long enough, and if you work nearby it's worth checking out as it's a pretty good value. I don't know how dressy you need to be at work, but I've been able to get by with a lot of stuff from there (both maternity and non-maternity). And isn't that what we're all trying to do when dressing during pregnancy - get by? |
Another mom with a 36" inseam checking in. I did a lot of drawstring pants; fine for casual weekend, but maybe not for a conservative office. I usually buy men's pants, as women's pants never never fit me, and I mostly altered my own by adding a maternity panel. I had a couple long black maxi dresses that I could wear my regular jackets over. |
I am 5'9" and tried Gap, Old Navy, Motherhood, Kohl's, H&M, JCPenney, and Sears. I finally gave up on finding something afforable and got one $200 pair of jeans from Pea in the Pod and one super-comfy pair of yoga pants for $69, as recommended at momstallmall.com. The latter was by far the best purchase I made during pregnancy! |
OK, original OP checking in:
I ended up buying a pair of the Gap maternity slacks in the Long length and size 8 (I am normally a size 8). http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=809171 They were long enough (just) even though I typically take 35/36" inseam. They fit my hips quite well. Very comfortable, although the butt and thigh area are looser than I would like - I have zero junk in the trunk though. I think they'd fit normally proportioned women well. The model wearing the pants in the picture definitely is either fuller-figured than most models or had the pants tailored specially for her. I also bought a dress - splurged and got this dress from Isabella Oliver: http://www.isabellaoliver.com/maternity-clothes/us/100/maternity-dresses/DR111.html And it was - ready - TOO LONG! I have never, ever, in my entire life since about age 14 tried on a piece of clothing that was too long. I will be able to wear high heels with this dress and still have it be flatteringly long, below my ankles. Thank you Isabella Oliver. |
sorry - OP here - I am a size 8.
Dunno why the website interpreted that as a smug smiley face. |
I am 5 11'' and I second Apple Seed in alexandria. I bought all of my work pants and jeans from there. |
Get some cute leggings. Wear your husbands button down with some cute jewelry or tie a ribbon around your waist. |
OP here, in response to 22:32
uh, cute suggestion, but my husband is only 5'7" tall. His button downs ain't getting close to covering my rear or crotch area - or even closing!!!!!! over my seven-month pregnant belly. I was in the GW neighborhood over the weekend and noticed it's the trend in the college world to wear black leggings in lieu of pants but to me it looks terribly immodest. Couldn't do that. Hell no. |
Eweee. Please dont take this advice. This is NOT a cute look at all. |
I am 5'10 and the best, most affordable work pants are surprisingly from Motherhood Maternity. And they're so cheap, you dont feel bad buying lots of colours/styles. |
