Non-trendy, Date Night Restaurant?

Cork is always crowded.

Near Dupont: Bistro du Coin, Russia House, or Al Tiramisu are great. All romantic and not terribly expensive.

If you can make to Capitol Hill (2nd & F NE, by Union Station), Toscana has great food and is also a good date place.

Don't recommend Marvin or St Ex because they are loud and crowded, food is decent but the wait sucks.

If you want a casual family restaurant that is small, cheap, and has amazing salvadorean food, I love El Rinconcito 2 in Columbia Heights.

On H St, I would go to Granville Moore's for nicer and Sticky Rice for casual. Try to get a reservation if you can.

How about Bistro D'Oc? Although not the absolute best restaurant, it does a really wonderful job at exactly that type of occassion. It is a warm, cozy, low-key place near Penn Quarter that is perfect for understated date nights. You would have a lovely time with good solid food and wine.

How is Marvin, foodwise? Cafe St. Ex? Cork?
You won't be able to have a conversation in any of those places.

Firefly, Little Fountain Cafe.

OP, all the places you listed are not what you said you're looking for...

Obelisk is wonderful, but if either of you are picky eaters, I would recommend looking at the menu first online because it is very small. Il Tiramisu is a quiet, romantic french restaurant in Dupont Circle on P Street that is nice.

A French restaurant called Il Tiramisu?!

Firefly! We had a great date night there once. Really good food, quiet, nice decor ..

I love Levante's - great Mediterranean food in Dupont. Not loud, you can have a lovely conversation, and you don't need a reservation.

Proof. Get the Sablefish - best fish dish in DC area.

Maybe Restaurant Nona - the new one on Connecticut Ave. where CPK used to be? It seems nice but not too nice.

I highly recommend Bistro La Bonne. You can wear jeans, sit at bar or table. Food is wonderful.

I work in Penn Quarter and have eaten at most of the places around here. I've had some great meals at Proof, Oya, PS7's and Zola. Yeah, they're a bit trendy, but the food and service are good. Cafe Atlantico was good, too.

And the earlier poster is right about Levante's - I've always liked it.
