I have no problem with calling it North Potomac, but still, I find it laughable that they chose North POTOMAC as the name. They couldn't come up with anything original, so tried to piggyback off the most affluent neighborhood around. It's like Hoboken calling itself South Manhattan. |
| The zip code is 20878 however the four digit extensions the post office stamps onto the mail really determines where you are. I'm off Route 28 - I address my mail Gaithersburg however it comes back stamped to me by the post office as North Potomac. Kentlands is Gaithersburg. Rio area is North Potomac. The area off Travilah that feeds to Wootton is North Potomac. The area surrounding Quince Orchard is Gaithersburg & Darnestown. |
| Since nobody who lives in North Potomac actually gave it that name, could you give it a rest? You dog people for something they have no control over. How dumb is that? |
This is exactly. If your address says North Potomac on the land records and the deed to your house, should people who live there just call it Gaithersburg to make some idiots happy??? Geez! |
|
The word idiots is accurate! Jealous idiots are more like it. They can't take it, but it sure is amusing to see them react! |
Apples and Oranges. North Potomac has many million dollar homes and is a far cry from the slums. Comparing it to Hoboken is a stretch. |
Agreed - North Potomac is full of very expensive homes. It may not be Potomac but it is definitely right up there with Chevy Chase and Bethesda. |
| Eh. I live here in a $425,000 town house. It's not all millionaires. |
No one said they were all million dollar homes but the city has its share. |
Yes, but I bet nobody thinks of me when they think North Potomac. |
PP you're probably right about that. But for reasons other than you think |
| I think this boils down to the old generation vs. the new generation. My suggestion to the old generation - get over it! |
| You people also realize that not all homes in Potomac are million dollar homes, right? There are plenty of homes in the 500k range as well - I know because I just completed the home buying process. I have a sneaking suspicion that many of these anti North Potomac posts are from angry Gaithersburg residents - so silly. Areas change, new communities develop and people name them. Potomac, Bethesda and Chevy Chase al had other names years ago as well. Were your ancestors in the town square throwing a hissy fit then too??? |
| I mentioned this on another thread about a different neighborhood and people misread it as me be snooty. The designations don't mean crap except to realtors trying to bill a home/neighborhood as more exclusive. You will see "North Cleveland Park" used as well, etc. It is isn't Cleveland Park per se---but right on the outside border. Homes in Glover Park or Burleith with sometimes use "North Georgetown". Sometimes the homes outside the official designantion feed into other scools or may be noisier or farther from amenities, or really not so close to the original neighborhood, etc...and other times there is no discernible difference they are just outside an official border. Sometimes the border was never clearly established. Realtors figure they can draw more potential home buyers to the area and maybe sell at slightly higher price. This is not unique to the DC area...it's done everywhere. |
You obviously haven't been to Hoboken lately. It's actually quite the happening place now. I laughed when I saw this, because a couple of years ago, I was going to a party in "North Potomac" and had a terrible time finding it, because my gps kept insisting that the address didn't exist. I finally thought to enter "Gaithersburg.". Bingo! Just realize that, with a zip code, the Post Office will deliver the mail if you write "North Pole" on it, that doesn't prove anything. But the GPS will find you out! |
