Good dress shoes for bunions?

Anonymous
I don't have bunions but I had surgery on the great toe joint and finding dress shoes is a challenge for me for the same kind of reasons. It's really trial and error. I have a pair of Sperry ballerina style flats that don't cut across that area very painfully. I recently bought a pair of low heeled Calvin Klein sling backs that are more open in the toe area around the big joint. They've been a godsend so maybe you could look into it. Otherwise I mostly wear sneakers, Dansko clogs, and Frye boots.

I've had surgery on one bunion. I also have hallux rigidus (frozen toe) on the non-operated side. So I don't wear heels at all. I finally figured out an answer so thought I'd share it here because it's so simple, it made me laugh. I go into a dollar shoe place and search for a soft flat that will hold my orthotic. Since these places are usually buy one, get one free, I buy two pair of shoes. The larger shoe fits my left foot which still has the bunion, the smaller one fits the right foot. Then I donate the mismatched pair of shoes in original box but with a note. I'm sure there is someone in the world looking at my new shoes in different sizes thinking WTF?

I wear Tieks when I can get away with it (long dress pants). In terms of style, I have found the peep toe seem to be the most comfortable for me.
