When you send your spouse to the store...

there was a commercial a few years ago for a cannon photo printer that had a woman taking pix of her canned goods and making a list for her husband - made me LOL every time because that's what I need to do too. He has gotten better, but only if i write down extreme details (8 oz Sorrento brand fancy shredded sharp cheddar), never mind that we've stocked the same darn shredded cheese in our house since we moved in in 2004. Good grief!

If I sent my spouse grocery shopping alone, I'd be rewarded with bags of snack cakes, hot pockets, and tons of spaghetti sauce.

For that reason, we always shop together.

I usually do the shopping b/c I stick to the list and buy what's on sale or generic most of the time. I try to keep on a budget too. If DH goes he's always blows the budget and gets way more than I do. I make the grocery list out the way I read it so if he happens to go I'd have to write it out. Like for example - green pepper. I know how many I need in my head but he wouldn't know.

I often text my DH pictures of products I need (especially if I've run out and didn't have quite enough, or know I'll be needing it later). It helps prevent the calls later on from the store asking what it looks like or it's exact location. He tends to get just what I need (plus an extra 2ish items), but also calls me and will spend the entire time having me walk him through the aisles... *sigh*

I'm a woman. I went to the store to get pie crust for a pumpkin pie and got Grhamn Cracker crust. Whoops. I thought it was common (my son said he made one in school with grahm crackers - maybe i shouldn't ask a 4 year old for baking advice).

But my DH and I have both done stupid things like this. At one point, I think I actually took pictures of items I was picky about. I did it as a joke, but my husband actually liked it. Because lets face it, picking out the non-fat yogurt that doesn't have Aspartame in it - out of the 200 kinds of yogurt - is kind of tricky.

I have had my husband call me from the store to ask about the size of diapers. This has always puzzled me - because my answer is - whichever one has his weight on it.

My husband at the grocery store means he will come home with sale items - in bulk. Now the problem with this is that I do the meal planning. So staples on sale are great. But he will come home with 5 pounds of ground meat and I'm suppose to figure out how to use it (and he doesn't like meat once its been frozen). It's actually become a joke in our house - me never knowing what he will come home with.

Anyone need 10 bottles of BBQ sauce?

My husband too. Whenever he goes to the store, I know to expect at least three calls asking about specific sizes or brands or amounts or whatever. At first it annoyed me but after a few years I now think it's sweet when the phone rings and I know it will be him!

He comes back with everything I asked for and a few things he noticed that we needed. He can do prescriptions, toiletry items, etc. No problem. I am the one who usually does it, but he is just as capable as me at it.

My husband does this too. I'm like, "did you really need to get 4 different kinds of mayonnaise?" But at least I get the one I wanted, lol.

I thought my DH was the only one who did this! At first I found it annoying, but now I think it's sweet - and it has taught me that I need to be specific if I don't want him to do this. He also used to buy multiple of the same thing. When we were engaged I sent him out for neosporin - and he came back with 3 tubes! Who needs 3 tubes of neosporin? I still have some of it lying around.

My husband does all of the shopping. I have to spell out every single thing and he still makes mistakes. But, I don't want to do the shopping so I live with whatever he gets.

Hah! We use a mix of Neosporin, Lotrimin, and Cortizone for bad diaper rashes, which are frequent enough on my sensitive dd that we go through a tube every few weeks. It had to read your post twice to figure out why it was weird to buy so much.

Anonymous wrote:Oh yes. I make my list as detailed possible, writing brands, sizes, numbers, etc. And even then, it's 50/50 that he'll choose something different. But he gets up early on Sundays and makes chocolate crepes, so I forgive him!

Wow! I thought iit was only my fate, but same here, as detailed list as possible and still suffer from results of creativity, but as dh goes more often to the store, The lower number of wrong items that I get. So it's learning process I guess. Since dc was born, I rarely go do shopping, so it has fallen on his shoulders. So, I'm not complaining about it.

My DH won't let me get fish anymore because I've screwed it up too many times. Like a PP noted about her DH, I also get paralyzed by the choices, and since I'm not the one who does our cooking, I have no idea about things like asking the counterperson to skin the fish, etc. Same with meat; since I'm a vegetarian, I don't really understand which cuts are for what kinds of meals. OTOH, if I send him for, say, toilet paper, I have to remind him of the particular brand we use (and have used for the last 12 years) or else he'll come home with the wrong thing. I guess we all have our priorities we focus on!
