I see 18% FARMS on greatschools.org, actually.

My bad, the printed copy of the 2011-12 School Chooser (by greatschools) list YY at 11% FARMS.

I wonder why the two different figures? Different years?

It shows figures of 18%, but only grades PK-1 and 131 students. Now it is 250 kids and PK-3. Maybe that is the difference?

New parents considering Yu Ying should remember that despite all the wonderful things Yu Ying has done and is doing, it is still a NEW school. I am a parent there and so I love the school and all it is doing, but think it is important to set expectations and consider your ability to volunteer and participate if you choose to send your kid to Yu Ying and expect or want things a more established school has.

I personally think it is unfortunate that only kids that attend the after school program (that is fairly expensive) can get the great extras that REEF offers like music or sports, etc., but in order to expand programs so that they are free or available during the day it takes money and time that is tight. I think especially as the kids get older and there is more demand for organized sports, etc., that a FREE opportunity be available to all the kids--ie, the Yu Ying Middle School Basketball team, etc.

Luckily Yu Ying has attracted many parents that are very devoted and giving. To get all the way to the perks that many of the nicest schools have that trend needs to continue.
