See, "global warming" is a misnomer. What's really happening is "climate change" -- it makes summers hotter and longer, and winters colder and more severe. The excess carbon in the atmosphere causes all sorts of other things to happen -- acidification of the ocean, alteration of global air streams and weather patterns -- which means that there are complex, far-reaching consequences to said excess (which is growing). I'm sorry if you want to pretend that "climate change" = "global warming," but climate change causing bad winters is one of those things most intelligent Americans (probably not Fox-News watchers, sadly) know by now. |

Thank you for the little science lesson, but I used the term "global warming" because I was responding to someone who used that very term--in fact, the poster put it in capital letters. You still didn't answer the question I asked: So . . . exactly when did the snow that's already fallen for the last several centuries begin to be the result of CLIMATE CHANGE? I'd really like to know--most confusing! |

If you are going to make sarcastic posts, don't expect better in a response. I'll make you a deal. You present the scientific case against, and I will give you an equally detailed case for. So you get to decide how much information you will get in response. If you are sincere, and you give good information, you will deserve and get a good reply. So put up or shut up. |

So you aren't going to actually post anything about climate change. You truly don't know what you are talking about. I will throw you one bone on how warming will increase snow in parts of New York. It does not explain this particular blizzard. But since your general point is that global warming can't produce snow, here is the easiest example to understand. A lot of snow in parts of New York is either lake effect or lake enhanced snow. What that means is that a weather pattern picks up moisture from a lake and turning it into snow, typically dumping it to the east. Lake Eerie is the reason that Buffalo gets dumped on. Cleveland is also east of lake Eerie. But the lake freezes, and it freezes earlier on the western end than the eastern end. The faster the lake freezes, the less lake effect snow. Lake Eerie is warming. The warmer it gets, the more unfrozen water is available to produce snow. You don't need the EPA or some "liberal" scientist to understand this. Any local weather man, heck most residents, of Buffalo or Rochester can explain lake effect snow. And anyone who operates a boat on Lake Eerie can tell you about the ice. There, I gave you a freebie. This is one way that warmer climates can produce more snow. Now it's your turn. |
