I did not find anything that special at Disney. The parks were OK, but for me, it is not something that I would call the experience of a lifetime. So, nothing to really steal my heart.
I would rather recommend something more exotic. How about a vacation in Iceland? A trip to Alaska, Marocco, Latvia, Siberia etc? |
Yes, but I doubt you are 5 years old. Siberia?? LOL. |
Disney is not the best place to go to with a 5 year old. Sure, there is a lot to see and do, but it gets a bit much for that age group. A lot of walking, too much to see. You have to keep and eye on your kid the whole time to know where he/she is. And make sure you balance it with enough sleep. Getting healthy snacks and meals is a pain. I did not find one place that would sell fruit or yoghurt So in the end Disney is something to see, but to me not a place to visit again. Nothing there really stole my heart. A little bit too much money for what you get in return. I am not sure what I was expecting. For our family it is one of those not-again vacations. |
| OP here: FWIW, we went to Disney last year in association with a business trip (my company put us up at the Boardwalk for 8 nights). We had a blast! Our kids were 6 and 2.5 at the time, and they loved it. DH and I let loose and went along with the silly Disney magic and in the end our family had tons of fun. We didn't try to see and do everything --- we just set out to play and have fun each day. My 2.5 year old (now 3 years old) still talks about the trip all the time. So, we want to go back, and we're looking for hotel suggestions. We loved the Boardwalk, but we really don't have anything to compare it to. What we loved about it: great location walking distance to Epcot (great for dinner -- we had hopper passes); free entertainment on the Boardwalk every night (which DH and my older son loved while I put the little guy to bed); great food options (a bakery/cafe where we could get egg sandwiches, bagels, juice, yogurt, etc each morning); walking distance to a few other resorts with restaurants. Has anyone stayed at the Boardwalk as well as other resorts? Can you offer a comparison? TIA! |

Our kids were not bowled over with Disney magic either. They much preferred Universal, Wet n Wild and Sea World.
Went once, had a good time but they still talk more about their trip to Hawaii. |
| Although I have not stayed there in a couple years, another recomendation for the Beach/Yacht Club. The kids love the huge pool with the sand bottom and the pirate ship. The rooms were nice and it was kinda long the Boardwalk area. |
| We loved the Animal Kingdom Lodge. The rooms are small but you can see zebras and giraffes right outside your room. It was very cool. We also liked the African buffet in the restaurant. |
| We stayed in a one bedroom at the Bay Lake Villas/Contemporary last week and had a great time. The villa was perfect with a full kitchen washer/dryer and 2 bathrooms. Our 4 year old loved it. The park was not crowded at all, no lines, and the quick walk to the Bay Lake from the Magic Kingdom made it easy to come and go. Watching the castle change colors from her bed at night and the fireworks from the room made it perfect. We really enjoyed the ktichen. We spent less money and we ate healthier food. |
People without kids going to Disney World always freaks me out. Why on earth? Unless you are a pedophile or have suffered a brain injury, of course. |
| LOL |
I never hear "why on earth" in real life, but constantly see it on DCUM. Maybe it's just one person who goes through life horrified at every little thing? |
we went on our honeymoon 12 years ago -- we were 25 and love amusement parks in general. disney is clean, bright, and the people there are always soooo happy and helpful. we spent 4 days in the parks and then did the three day cruise. we can't wait until our kids are old enough to really experience it. when we were there we laughed and said who would waste this fab vacay on a kid?? |
