I feel ya on the whining . . . working with one income and a special needs kid here. even after my government insurance, i still owe the hospital thousands.
being grateful doesn't mean it still won't hurt . . . as i fill out my CFC contribution form for the march of dimes donation. |
And taxpayers are footing the bill for the federal government, and alot of those taxpayers are unemployed, so just be happy you have a job and cease griping. |
| Your not entitled to a raise every year, don't plan your life expecting one and you won't have to "freak out" over not getting one. |
|
My insurance premiums alone went up to $1100/mo for my family of 3 and we're non-fed w/no pay raise this year (or last) - it hurts.
I'd love to know what Obama care is doing about that ... and I too voted for the guy. |

WHY does everyone keep talking about inflation - there has been no real inflation this year or last - if anything, we are in danger of deflation (see stagnant wages...)

I think the issue is that inflation/deflation is measured by a series of household consumerables that doesn't include housing. At least in this area, housing costs are not deflating... This said, there is pain everywhere. Fed employees have to be willing do their share. Many people are unemployed, being furloughed, or being asked to kick in huge subsidies (to cover health care costs). I think it's pathetic for the OP to complain. period. |
Hmmm, if we have deflation, I guess they should adjust federal pay down to keep up. |
Because the reality is that many of our actual costs have gone up, especially for healthcare. Daycare will increase too, as will school tuitions. Overall costs as a market basket may be dropping, but large costs that impact many people still continue to go up. Some will feel that while others (with different costs) will not. |
Yep, our healthcare costs are going up as is our daycare next year. So...these articles and theories don't mean much to me. We refinanced so our mortgage is less luckily, but it is bullshit to say costs aren't going up. At least some that impact our monthly bills will be going up and if our pay doesn't go up, then we have less. We're not feds - but I found out last week I can expect no raise at my next review, and no cost of living increase, even though they laid off someone and basically gave much of her job to me. So I'm doing two jobs and not getting crap. And yeah, I'm bitter about it. I'm glad I have a job though, and I feel for my friends and former co-workers who don't. |
| We live in a small TH and daycare prices went up at least 5% this year and seem to go up at least that every year. Don't pass judgment unless you walk in someone else's shoes. |
| just wait until the deficit reduction commission report on wed. then you'll see some real cuts. Of course, political division in washington means nothing of significance will happen. |
Full-time day care is time limited - 5 years per child in less you are continuing to have kids and want to have 3-6 kids and in that case, you clearly can afford it or you wouldn't have multiple kids. And, it may increase, but day care rates change as the staff to child ratio changes with ages and usually goes down. |
I really wish we'd means-test Social Security and curb Medicare spending. It's really sick that people over 65 get such huge entitlement programs. So many working families are struggling, really suffering to make ends meet... |
The problem with entitlement programs is that EVERYONE feels entitled to them. Trust me, when you are 65 (or 70) and you've been paying into those programs for the last 50 years, through thick and thin, you will be MIGHTY pissed off when they discontinue them and you don't get your share of the pie. |
