Infants, Toddlers, & Preschoolers
| I have an 8.5 month old and I work from home. The nanny is here 9 hours a day/ 5 days a week. She takes him out once in the morning & once in the afternoon for about one hour on each occasion. I am totally fine with that. He starts to get fussy sometimes even after his nap. I would rather have him out enjoying the nice weather. Besides, he would otherwise rarely get out of the house. When his older brother comes home from school, things are so hectic. We live in a small neighborhood and we know all the neighbors and their nannies. When our nanny takes DC out, she usually meets up with the neighborhood SAHMs and nannies. DC gets to socialize with all of them. If I want to see what I going on, I just go outside. I have never had a problem with it. |

I'm OP- Thank you all for giving me your differing thoughts. I did check in on the park and they seem to be having a fine time on the swing or just looking around. She does talk on the phone but I don't think it's to an excess. I did not see her socializing too much with other nannies(I think the language barrier is there).
I also realized that it's hard to keep in infant entertained at home so that's probably why she's going out so much. I did however ask her to keep the baby home for at least an hour during the day whilst she is awake so she can play on the ground and try to pull herself up and get around in an safe environment. My nanny wasn't pleased about staying at home(obvious from her face), but she is doing what I am asking. She did tell me that she takes the blanket outside and let's her play outside on the floor or the bench to address my concern about her not getting enough time to move around. |
Glad it worked out. |

I would worry about skin cancer. Babies that age are not meant to be outside for THAT amount of time.

I agree completely! I am so worried about my baby being out in the sun because his skin is so sensitive. Please make sure that your nanny is using sunscreen on your DC and avoiding the sun between peak times 10:00am-3:00pm. |
| How wonderful your Nanny takes the time and spends the energy to go on these outings. I have the same situation. I checked them out at the park, even borrowing a friends car once or twice so the Nanny didn't see me watching. I am utterly confident that my daughter is being cared for and interacted with. They are at the park all day (when DD is not napping). She wears a hat and lots of sun screen, and they stay in the shade alot. Our wonderful Nanny sings and talks to her for the entire walk to the park. I would much rather my child be outside than inside, especially while the weather is so lovely. THey will be cooped up in the AC during the dog days of summer. If I were you, I'd celebrate this wonderful situation. My cousin's Nanny won't get off the couch and take the kids anywhere.... |

I'm a nanny also. I only work part time right now, from 830 to 230. My boss is a stay at home mom and the best boss ever! The boys are 2 1/2 and 1. Our day looks like this:
830 - I get to work, sometimes finish feeding breakfast and then we play until 9. 9 - the baby goes down and the oldest little guy and I go out for an hour or 2. We usually do the childrens mus. An indoor play park or the zoo. Sometimes we stay home, if mom needs the car. Mom will listen for the baby well we are gone and if he wakes early, she calls and we will come home. Except today, I took both boys to a professional photographer and got their pictures taken for mothers day 10:30-11 - we usually come home, play and I will make lunch 1130 - we eat and then depending on the weather we will either play or go for a walk 1 - naps for both boys, then I pick up toys, do dishes, vaccum and laundry |

I'm a nanny too and I think just like you but I can't find a family that will let me offer everything I have! I have my Bachelor of Science in Nursing and still can't convince parents to let me take their little ones on stimulating outings! I'm happy for you and glad to hear that there ARE families out there that appreciate an amazing nanny. Maybe one day I'll get to work for a family like that For now, I'm stuck making the most out of their backyard and living room on gorgeous days...tried to get permission to take them to the pool tomorrow but ..to no avail.
