second, third, FOURTH day hair?

I'm one of the people from the other thread who can go 4 days. My hair is pretty thick so it takes a while to get oily. Also, in the warmer months I wear it wavy/curly which does better with fewer washings, so my hair is used to producing less oil from years of this regimen (even though I have an oily face).

Also, I'm always careful to not put product on the roots area so it does not start out with that buildup. And I brush a lot at night to distribute the oils from the roots to the ends.

As PP said, my worst hair day is the day I wash it because it's dryer, my best is day 3.

Counter-intuitive, but my hair feels cleaner when I put this stuff in it. Without it, I feel disgusting and look greasy after ~30 hours. I also have a lot of very fine, very straight hair.

I am intrigued by the recommendation for a shower filter. We have a whole-house filter, but I haven't noticed a difference in my hair.

use it on day 2, or on the first day only?

So how long does it take for your hair to adjust once you stop shampooing daily? A week? Two? A month? I have short, fine and flat hair. Not my best feature. And I shampoo daily, would love to stop, but I have to work and it just looks awful the next day. If I knew it would only take a week or two to adjust, I'd do the switch over a vacation or something...

Agreed, it is a vicious cycle. The more you shampoo, the more oil your scalp will make and the greasier your hair will be. Get a good dry shampoo (they are not all equal!) and suck it up for a week or two and you should be fine. I can't get more than 3 days out of a blow out, but day 2 is fine and day 3 is usually an updo.

I color my hair and figure I need the moisture to repair the damage, then again, shampooing everyday could be working against me. I think I may be like the PP who can skip days in winter, but not summer. Maybe i'll give it another shot now that it's colder.

I just want to throw in that this is a huge misconception. Your hair is dead and cannot be repaired. The only thing your "moisturizing" shampoo is doing is coating your hair in silicone to make you think it's healthy. Cut your split ends and use a basic shampoo and conditioner.
