What's up with the Anonymous posters ?

Anonymous
Most people are anonymous because it's not required to register. And while I've considered registering, I just haven't done it.

Some people are definitely of the snarky/nosey/snobby variety but not everyone.

I've been posting since 2006 without ever having signed up for a screen name. If I want to talk about being a lesbian mom, how to make ends meet or get into a discussion about religion, then I don't really need that tied to nanny job search posts.

There was a failed attempt at a "username name required" forum. It was super boring and people lost interest quick.
Anonymous
I did register at some point, and then never bothered to log in. I don't even remember my info anymore...

The thing is...even with a name (nick name or a picture) you can still keep as an anonymous. Who the hell in here know the FBNF...or whatever???

I think it would be nicer if everybody had a nick name. Not to identify people but to identify opinions. ie oww the little banana is talking, or the apple cinnamon just wrote that and so on. Nobody would know that little banana is actually Mary Jane who live at U street and apple cinnamon is Katy who lives in McLean...

I mean..just IMO.

Actually, you can't keep in anonymous. Eventually if you post enough people can find out who you are - as many people have expressed. Yes, you aren't identifying yourself by name, but overtime it is not hard to figure out that "AwesomeMom2010" lives in Arlington, works as a govt. lawyer in X agency, has a husband who is an obgyn, her kids go to X school, and sooner or later it's going to be revealing if she starts posting about her fertility issues, marital problems, potential job search, etc.

Adequate Parent is one example. We know what she does for a living, where she lives, how old her kid is and I think her daughter does public school in DC and so so. Fine for her, but you can bet she's not going to post about the things I just mentioned under her name. Solution would be to not log in for those questions, but then, that is the point - the ability to be able to post anonymously allows for the more personal stuff to be posted, and that is why many of us come back to DCUM.

It leads to more honest discourse in many cases (and, or course, unhelpful attacks). But if I sign on as MomOf3 and then post one day about, say, my deeply held convictions about formula feeding (be it good or bad) then all of those offended by or in disagreement with my opinion on FF would be less likely to respond civilly or helpfully to a post about what to do when faced with some other concern or issue. Anonymity means all is forgiven by the next thread (because no one can identify you to hold a grudge).

meant so on, not so so.

For instance, I know FBFNFTM posted BS and I now believe nothing that she posts. Although, they've been more believable since she started using a screen name.

I did call BS, but was not the one to attribute other posts or assign a name. It's not a matter of stalking. Your tone of hysterics was identical in both posts and I was also suspicious before you admitted it.

because the people with the screen names are dorks. that's why.

Also know-it-all. Whatever happened to "April,May,June"?
Anonymous
We are anonymous because we would have to have a long boring thread about screen names we like and screen names we don't like. Hint: screen names like Chloe, Jack, Cole and Maddie are acceptable. Screen names like Amber, Amos, Tiffani and Milton are not acceptable.

Yes, but "The babysitter dropped my baby!!!!!!" and "American women don't know how to wash clothes!!!!!" are not mundane baby questions. They were psycho.

And I believe the anonymous poster question can be answered by this very simple example.

Blah, blah, blah... Like I care if you believe me or not.

Like I said, it was never a game of hide and seek for me so there was no exposure, revelation or whatever. I'm not here to discuss embarrassing health issues, marital problems or income so I'm pretty much the average FTM with silly "my baby's first cold" kind of questions. Now, to make it easier for the stalkers I have a name and a face. There. It's over.

But I believe you said that you sometimes ask because you are curious and not because it was true. Why not just ask instead of creating elaborate fake posts?

I'm one of the many "stalkers" of FBFNFTM. And I'm also someone who points out that she clearly still posts anonymously. And she also routinely has "fights" with herself where she posts as the screen name and then logs off and takes the other side.

Crazy.

Indeed. Then again, her signature? quote is: "You’re just jealous because the voices will only talk to me..."
