What Party do I belong to?

Anonymous
This year I made the conscious decision not to vote in most national races. I hated all my options and couldn't in good conscience push the button for any of them.

Given that "social safety net libertarian" is a complete non-sequitur, I don't doubt that's the case.

whichever party favors decentralization...thinks lawyers should be disqualified from running for office....has the common sense to worry a hell of a lot more about nuclear terrorism than global warming....is highly suspicious of the IRS.....stays out of peoples business, health, beliefs and bedrooms....doesn't condone an open border welfare-state, is very suspicious of zoning authorities, environment authorities, busybodies and control freaks. Thats the party for me....George Washington.

I'm assuming you are pro-choice and against banning gay marriage. If so, then I still would not like you, but at least I wouldn't consider you to be a raging hypocrite.

Ah, yes... Let's ban anyone with legal experience from writing our laws. There's one party that fetishizes ignorance, and makes war on expertise. Clearly that's the place for you.

So, what party do I really belong to? I am socially liberal, but fiscally conservative. I don't ever seem to like either of the politicians they give me to choose from. I actually don't like that really, I only get to choose from 2. I know there are others, but I was chastised for choosing the other once and taking a vote away from the 2 big wigs. It reminds me of the giant corporations taking over the smaller companies. You get two choices. Really those two choices are not all that different from one another when you get down to it. So, which side do I belong on? What guidelines should I use to help me decide when it comes time to vote?

Well, it used to be that you could be a Republican with these values but people like this are losing primary elections these days. Also I would say maybe you don't feel like you fit in with the Democrats in the DC metro area but I think there are a lot of people like you in other places around the country who call themselves Democrats.

I get where the OP is coming from. I'm a liberal, and agree with MOST of the left's policies, but found myself hating Nancy Pelosi, to where I couldn't stand listening to her.

I'm still curious as to why this is? Is there a concrete reason, or is it just that you find her personality grating? Or what?

When she appears before the cameras, Pelosi often seems stiff and almost brittle. In person, she's warm and engaging - also funny, earthy and just plain good company. She tells a great story. She turns a mean phrase. Colleagues on Capitol Hill almost universally describe her as a good boss and simply a good person.

It was frustrating to hear Republicans demonize her in their thunderous public statements, then confess privately that they really liked her. Ain't politics grand?
