We can't receive trick-or-treaters this year -- how to let neighbors know?

I do this every year because the trick or treaters in our neighborhood are in high school and trick or treating is for young children..

We do this after 8 PM in DC to avoid the teens.

Me too - and my DH also disconnects the doorbell sometimes after 8:00, since in my neighborhood, no lights is not a deterent, and I'd rather my kids are not woken up all night by the doorbell. I love the little kids coming around, but the 15yo in a half-assed costume, grabbing handfuls of candy feels close to a shakedown.

DH always seems to be working on Halloween so we leave a bowl of candy on the porch. If I didn't the kids would never get to trick-or-treat.

you know in many states now Virginia is on the list 12 is the cut off. Read an article in the newspaper saying 13+ can get fined for trick-or-treating.... Just how many people are going to follow it though.

I have had neighbors put a sign in their yard for what ever reason. Signs normally read Due to a new baby in house we are not treating but next door has extra candy from us.
Or a neighbor who for relegious reasons posted, we do not beleive in halloween stay of our property. We have cameras.. what ever good that did with kids in customs

Leave a bowl of candy and go to a movie.

I'd love to know what your "various reasons" are that you have to be so mysterious about, OP. Just curious.
