| If this is true, this is quite the gotcha for MCPS to pull on those families. I wouldn't put it past them but MCPS needs to clarify officially one way or another if kids who are grandfathered into the legacy DCC/NEC schools now have to seek COSAs annually to remain in those schools, and if transportation is or isn't included as part of that grandfathering. |
Chaos. |
If we go back to earlier discussions at BOE meetings, Taylor indicated transportation would be available to students completing studies at a consortia program outside home schools. |
| Where are we hearing this? Rhetorical - but why would they let rising 6th graders apply for the MSMC if WOULDNT be an option during their tenure? |
Agree with you completely. This is LITERALLY what people were saying when they said SLOW DOWN with the changes to regional programming and figure yourself out (transportation specifics) so you don’t end up with people making plans that won’t actually work for their families. MCPS transportation planning folks are also some of the least bright people I’ve ever encountered. Chat gpt could come up with a better set of routes than these people. |
They say silly stuff like this but it’s not real. Like they say limited transportation will be provided for summer school. What that means in reality is they will provide transportation for special needs students they are required to transport by law, and they’ll direct the others to the free county ride on bus whether it comes near your home or not. |
Yes, MCPS is famous for bait and switch moves, such as cancelling transportation. |
Yeah, MCPS and Taylor purposely say stuff that sounds one way but ends up being another when it gets implemented because they're leaving out the fine print in those public remarks. |
There are 3 MSMC schools, one of which is a child’s assigned home school. |
We’re out of bounds - I’m saying why would they advertise and let my child apply if she might not be able to compete all 3 years at a msmc school. |
| Wait, I am confused - are you saying my current 7th grader at Argyle will need a Cosa if we want our kid to continue there next year and we will have to provide transportation? We are now getting transportation from Clarksburg. |
And then there are those of us who are out of consortium and who got in through the lottery. We get transportation now to the middle school except for after school activities |
You only have to get the COSA approved once. But you are correct — there is no transportation. |
This would only apply fall 2027, so you're fine for next year. |
| Slides from the last BOE meeting mentioned "2027 consolidation of bus routes." The regional model info sessions are saying "central stops only, which may not be walkable." So much for the regional programs being easier to access. 🤷🏻♀️ |
