Filing in the "Wow people will use ADHD to justify ANYTHING" folder. Thanks. |
Not the point. Knowing your spending habits and making the correct choices is. |
How does ADHD impact repeating outfits? Asking a genuine question. |
DP with ADHD and I'm the opposite - I like repeating outfits and/or buying items I like in several colors because I get decision fatigue. As far as clothing rentals, I always have to buy multiple sizes to try on, so it's never made sense to me how that would work with rentals. I tried a Nuuly subscription for a few months but it didn't work for me. |
A classic black $6,000 Chanel dress from 20 years ago will always be fashionable. The higher end the designer the longer it can be worn. |
Ai says it better than I can: Impulsive clothing shopping with ADHD stems from dopamine-seeking behavior and hyperfixation. The rush of finding a "perfect" piece offers temporary emotional regulation, often followed by buyer's remorse. Why Clothing is an ADHD Trap Novelty & Dopamine: A new outfit provides an immediate hit of novelty. "Hyperfocus Trance": Falling down online shopping rabbit holes feels like an escape from boredom or stress. Aspirational Identity: Buying a specific aesthetic (e.g., "I will be a minimalist/runner/chic professional") is more exciting than the reality of wearing it. |
| I really like the boxes. My recent box had something for graduation, a wedding and a client meeting and a conference panel. It's a nice way to add some new stuff to the wardrobe when you're in pictures, etc. |
Find an Instagram influencer or two the same size as you. You can see how clothes look on a person, get notified of sales, etc. If you are very thin, pumpsandpushups might be good for you -- she's 4.10. Easier and cheaper than the subscription boxes. |
Same. I long for my childhood uniform days! I wish I could have an adult uniform. |
This is dopamine seeking habit. Biggest shoppers I know who don't even open boxes or take tags off, have ADHD. They shop for me others too. I'm drowning into crap. They are also nearly broke, but cannot stop. |
You still have dresses from 25 years ago? That in itself is impressive. |
| I think it’s cool that you did the subscription service. You avoided a lot of fast fashion purchases and cut down on waste. If you want to own some special pieces now, I think you certainly deserve to go buy them without guilt. |

I used a rental service years ago but it didn't really work for me. I am petite with a naturally larger bust and things just didn't fit right, and sometimes the clothes were worn out looking.
I invested in pieces that are timeless and I get them tailored, which works for me. |

| I did a clothing rental service years ago, but it was just for fun, not to save money. Ended up not keeping any of the pieces, since I found little issues with each of them. Eventually got fed up with sending them back and them not quite getting my style right, but again, it was pretty fun for a while. Didn't realize people did it to save money. |
