What do you buy for someone turning 70?

It’s hard for me to believe, but I’m getting closer to your mom’s age. My adult DD got me some Mixtile photos for the wall of us together and our recent trip to Portugal for my birthday. I really like them.

I’d go for something like that or an experience like theater tickets or museum membership.

I just turned 70, still work and stay in shape. I would think a nice lunch outing with you would be nice. Experience are better than more junk.

Lunch out. Museum membership.
We also give books to all ages.

Is it like decades old candy that will break teeth? Or candy that was manufactured in the 50's and is still being manufactured now?

The latter (at least as far as I could tell 😂 )

Like here is a list from a store that popped off a google search—

Sugar Daddy, Cinnamon Jawbreakers, Bit O'Honey, Lifesavers, Smarties, Wax Bottles, Candy Necklace, Smarties Pop, Tootsie Roll, Candy Cigarettes Pack, Abba Zaba Candy Bars, and Wax Lips.

It sounds unimpressive but the nostalgia hit was real

This is depressing because it sounds like don't get anything with long shelf life because she doesn't jave one
I am 75 and like usual birthday stuff
Nice nightgown, pajamas or lounging outfit.
Flowering annuals in a lovely large pot for porch or patio, with IOU for fall mums, winter pansies.

+1

I'll be your mother's age in 4 years and I can tell you I don't need or want anything. What I do prize is time with my daughter, so I highly recommend an experience you can both do together.
--A museum visit followed by a nice lunch
--A fancy tearoom experience
--A weekend trip with just the two of you

Where do you live? Some of us can give more suggestions if you tell us where you're from.

Anonymous wrote:Honestly, the WORST gift to get someone in this age range is perfume IMO. Their sense of smell diminishes as they get older and they tend to spray way too much until they are literally walking around in a cloud of scent which often lingers even when they've left.

It's especially problematic when they go out to restaurants and really overdo it, and the rest of the patrons nearby have to deal with it ruining their meals.

Omg she’s 70 not 90.

How many people need another mug and throw? We just tossed a bunch of both.

Maybe the latest hit water bottle, silk or cashmere scarf, coffee beans, spices, olive oil/vinegar, baking mixes, a mahjong set, sneakers, lululemon hoodie.

Makes me laugh to say “how many people need another mug” and then suggest a water bottle.

70 is very young. 10 years ago, she was 60, which is still in youth years, just a little before that she was in her 50s, which seems to be the age range of most women here, so there’s no reason to age shame. You’ll be 70 soon too. Buy whatever’s trending on instagram.

My favorites to receive are experience's or maybe a gift basket with foods/snacks/treats/teas/coffees/wines/chocolates/soaps, etc. or flowers

A quality jigsaw puzzle - Ravensburger, Pomegranate or New Yorker magazine puzzle.

I'm younger and don't want anything. Whatever anyone gives me is a duplicate of something I already have. I ask for tickets to concerts or sports events.

As a 72 year old - my favorite gift is time. Spend time with your Mom -- out to lunch, coffee, a walk somewhere. There are so few times that I get to spend with my children -- without the spouses and grandchildren (all of whom I love and we get along well). But a little time alone with my adult child is priceless!
