What’s the big deal? There are ridiculously expensive cars, too. And people who can’t afford them are usually smart enough to avoid them. Nobody has a gun to your head making you go to to Vassar. |
Because they can. |
| Dollar devaluation going nuclear. |
For some people, that’s nothing, |
Sure, but it doesn't mean they should. Some people don't understand the value of things, I guess. |

Out of 26, only 3 are in top 10 universities, 2 are in top 10 of LAC from U.S News ranking.
Or, we don't know yet for others. |

Wow, I wonder how much somehow good like MIT would be these days.
I guess donut families are completely priced out now. |
.. and their kids are dumb so not getting in anywhere else. |
I could argue it is a better use of money than, say, a yacht or a pj, or a luxury car, or luxury vacations, or a 8,000 sq ft house and on and on. Education of one's choice is probably one of the better things to spend money one when you don't need to worry about ROI or judgemental poors. |
Don't be bitter. |
| Fordham gave my kid generous merit that took the COA to "only" $10-15k more than UVA, VT, and WM. I understand the USNWR rankings are different, of course. |
| Kiddo full tuition ride in a top 10 COA, shielded from tuition hikes but feels the pinch from higher than inflation rate dorm + food increases |
Value is subjective. If you make $100k a week, or even a month, the cost of these schools is no big deal. If it makes their kids happy, they're happy to pay it. |
| 1929 here we come. |
| Inevitable and the rest will eventually hit it. |
