| It’s uh-lawn-knee like the drink Alani. |
NP. I would have said Ale-any. Looks like ailment to me. It's just not attractive looking. I think Lainey is nice. |
Using what sort of pronunciation do you get uh-lawn-knee?? Ail doesn't make the uh sound. Maybe you could get Uh-i-lainey. |
Like Delaney??? |
Aisle gets to that sound because of the silent s. If you remove the S, you'd have "Ale" |
Uh-law-nee |
No, I-law-knee Pronounce the "ai" like it's Hawaiian. |
10000% It's almost embarassing how little self-reflection there is in the posts. Ailany has two common pronunciations: A (pronounce like the letter A) -lah-nee -- think like Leilani without the L. or I (pronounce like the letter) - lah-nee Emphasis on the second syllable. It's Polynesian/Hawaiian in origin but is most popular with central Americans (Nicaraguans, Hondurans) which is why you see it more in Maryland then, say, Illinois. |

Guys, this isn't a Bethesda name, it's a Baltimore name. I'm not saying that to be problematic, I'm saying it to make people realize that there are a lot of people in Maryland and in the world who are not like your (and my) sterile bubble in MoCo.
Making fun of it or acting like it's SO WEIRD is not a good look. |
| Made up name. Makes her parents sound uneducated. |
Imagine being someone who says this outloud. A lot of their parents probably are uneducated. Or educated in another language, which makes you think they are dumb I suppose. And guess what, a lot of these girls will be in college - as first gen students - or work with your kids one day. Or be their bosses! Or - gasp! - spouses. Imagine that!!!! |
I hope every single child in your family grows up to marry an Ailany and live happily ever after, whether they are male or female. |
| I’ve never heard of it and it’s a dumb name. |
Same. I have never heard it before though. |
