We tried to watch the Goonies and it was terrible. Turned it off after 10 minutes.
My tween enjoyed both Top Gun movies almost as much as I did
Star Wars
Bridge to Terabithia

You are nuts. The Goonies is a classic. My kids loved it.

16 Candles is racist and does not age well. No thanks.

The line between appropriate/problematic is highly subjective and can vary according to a family’s preferences and the individual child, especially at that age. I highly recommend you consult Common Sense Media and/or IMDB parent’s guide for any specific concerns you might have.

Several of these movies have been remade. I generally prefer original films to their remakes, and may not have even seem the newer versions.

Ever After
Princess Bride
Ella Enchanted
ET
Nim’s Island
Galaxy Quest
War Games
Goonies
Gremlins
Short Circuit
Annie
Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
Spy Kids
Charlotte’s Web
Who Framed Roger Rabbit
Hook (child dies at end)
The Mask
Liar Liar
Karate Kid
Beetlejuice
Jumanji
Sound of Music
Wizard of Oz
Willow
Jurassic Park
The Flintstones Movie
Sister Act
Akeelah and the Bee
A League of Their Own
Yours, Mine, and Ours
Cheaper by the Dozen (Dad dies at end)
The Truman Show
White Nights
Crocodile Dundee
Kindergarten Cop
Mr. Mom
Good Morning Vietnam
Men in Black
Independence Day
Three Men and a Baby
Overboard
1776 (has some emotionally intense scenes, one part always makes me cry)

Star Wars
Star Trek
James Bond
Mel Brooks

Back to the Future (does have the parking lot scene)

Disney live action movies (Sky High, Sorcerer's Apprentice, Princess Diaries, Honey I Shrunk the Kids, Parent Trap, Freaky Friday, Ice Princess, etc.)

animal movies (Lassie, Benjie, The Incredible Journey, Free Willy, etc.)

Classic movies can be great, especially the comedies and musicals (Elvis, Annette’s beach movies, Abbott and Costello, Three Stooges, Danny Kaye, Jerry Lewis, Shirley Temple, Katherine Hepburn, Doris Day, Cary Grant, Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, etc.)
