Perimenopause and alcohol?

Anonymous
I am 42. I drink very rarely. I had one drink with food at 4:30pm on Friday, drank it slowly, had lots of water, and yesterday I felt tired and grouchy all day. It's not worth it, which is honestly a good thing because I am sure it is also terrible for me.

Maybe change your perspective? Your body is doing you a favor. Just stop drinking.

Plus one. Alcohol really isn’t good for us anyway. And really the first time you drink an alcohol it doesn’t taste great- unless maybe a sugary cocktail? Generally it’s more acquired and we keep drinking it so our body adjusts. So if it isn’t agreeing with you, that alright. Healthier and cheaper.

I started noticing that red wine gave me an almost immediate headache. I’ve never been a big drinker but now I can have maybe one drink. 57 yo

Eh. I never drink to get drunk. I don’t do it to be cool. I have a couple of drinks a month, max. Because sometimes it makes a meal or event feel special. It’s annoying that having ONE drink makes me feel terrible for a whole day.

I had one glass of wine with dinner last night. Horrible sleep. Up at 3am. It's over. I'm 49.

OP, alcohol triggers hot flashes for me as well, and messes up my sleep. I indulge very, very rarely these days.

Liquid IV one for every two drinks should get you right, . Also 1 before you go to bed.

Same here. 47. Rarely if ever worth it.

Thanks - never thought of electrolytes. I have a trip coming up that involves wine tasting and I plan on doing minimal sipping but it certainly can’t hurt to bring something like this along!

43 and I can still drink occasional liquor but not wine pr beer. 1 cocktail a week is generally fine. 2, even if they are days apart is not fine! Its like I take multiple days to process that one drink!

Its sad. But I'm getting used to it.

Anonymous wrote:Am I doomed to never drink again? I’m 47, so I assume I’m in peri? No real symptoms that I’m aware of (I still have an IUD and no period). But in the last few months my body won’t let me drink. I’m not a giant drinker even though I enjoy it - not worth the calories to me when I’m already fighting with my weight. But one beer at a bbq last weekend left me up all night with night sweats. And 2 not very strong cocktails last night left me up all night sweating.

Is that what’s going on here? Is it time for hormones? Will this phase pass or is this a forever thing now?

Why do you assume you’re in peri at the age of 47 if there are no other symptoms?

I wasn’t a huge drinker either, and at 47 couldn’t tolerate it. I still very occasionally drink, but like others know that I might not sleep and will feel like shit.

Take one of these before you go. Helps quite a bit.
