I’m poster 9:31. We had a bed bug sniffing dog come out as part of one of the pest inspections I mentioned, and while the dog didn’t find anything, the pest company still wouldn’t confirm we didnt have bed bugs. |
It was likely NOT a bedbug. Lucky for you! |
Bedbugs and carpet beetles look nothing alike. |

There's a product called Aprehend, I think. I had to use it a few years ago.
You spray it and it gives them a lethal and very contagious fungal infection. Not toxic to humans, but to them it is the plague. They are very social creatures so it truly does spread amongst them. I got a small bottle of it and put it in a spray bottle and spritzed around the mattress. It was very effective. I think this is the product the hospitality industry uses. |
This. Carpet beetles are easily identifiable and don't hide out the way bedbugs do. Carpet beetles are like dust mites in that they feed on dead skin cells in the dust that's trapped in your carpet and upholstery. They do not bite humans but their larva can cause allergic reactions in some people resulting in skin welts that are mistaken for bites. |
the larva look alike |
We used one, and it immediately flagged bed bugs in the bedroom/luggage of the college kid that brough them home from the dorm over break, and a slight flag in the adjacent room, but nowhere else in the house. They use beagles. A beagle's nose doesn't lie |
