Anonymous wrote:OP, why would it save you $4k? Have booked tickets like this before (into one airport, back out of another one in Europe) and the price was very similar to a roundtrip price.

But the earlier idea about flying from LHR is a good one, I'd probably do that, avoids just a lot of hassle of getting into London, doing the multiple changes, etc.

Then take Eurostar back to London.

I don’t have enough miles to fly in/out Paris. If I want to use miles I only can fly to and from London.

Which airline? If you needed another option, you could probably get the train to Brussels or Amsterdam and fly from there.

I assume you are seeing Virgin Atlantic flights to London? I wonder if you can search as a multi-city trip and search to Paris (use code PAR to pull in Orly as well in your search), and then the return back from London? Wondering if their system might not be able to find a saver economy award tagging on an Air France flight for the LHR-CDG leg.

Eurostar is not cheap I just want people to realize. Train travel is an awesome option and you could def do it but personally, I'd compare pricing.

It depends what train selection you make for that day of course but apples to apples, I've never saved a ton of time + a ton of money training v flying in Europe. Usually it's a trade off

OP - I'm spending 10 days in AMS + London. I would never train, I'd fly. Train is 4+ hours direct at over $150 for 2 people. Flying is $90 and 1 hour.

There's 3 London airports, Gatwick, LHR and LCY. You should check fares out of all 3.

You should check to see how long that entire trip will take you, door to door. Where in London will you be staying? Because only one is in the city (LCY) but unless you are staying in that part of the city, it'll probably be an hour to get there. Heathrow and Gatwick aren't exactly around the corner, either.
