Tesla model Y vs Toyota RAV4 2026, which car to buy?

The RAV4 looks ugly. Go with Tesla.

But Tesla's owner is far uglier inside and out. And you're going to have an ugly look on your face when your Tesla starts needing maintenance.

I have a Tesla 2026 model y and I love it

+1 OP, do not buy a car based on emotional outbursts from people. The Y is a great car and we have had zero maintenance issues (after 2 years so maybe we will have some issues going forward). It is not made out of "plastic". There is a learning curve because it is not like other cars. I suggest renting one for about 3 days (that's what we did) before you buy it.

The Toyota RAV4 is probably a good car, but it is not an EV. Get an EV. You will not miss the gas station.

How comfortable are you trusting your safety to some hacked together software under the control of an egomaniacal nazi

Ignore this kind of stuff OP. Tesla is a huge company with really good software engineers. It's a good car. I have been driving on FSD for a long time now. Love it. It's leading edge software---there was nowhere to hack it from.

+1. For that commute a Tesla works well. I haven’t had any maintenance in 3 years.
However for long trips we usually take our other car, an SUV, because it has more room and it’s easier not to deal with charging on a road trip.

How funny, I had this same dilemma a couple of months ago. I was going to go with the 2026 RAV4 (I previously had a RAV4 and also have a Highlander so big Toyota fan) but there was a shortage of the trim I wanted and the waitlist was a bit long. I couldn’t even test drive it anywhere since none of the local dealers had it in stock. I decided to go with the Tesla Y due to the FSD/self driving feature. It’s an adjustment to use FSD but I find it reliable. I wish there was a gear stalk but I like the acceleration and I find it easy to use. If you are driving 40 miles a day, I think you will appreciate FSD to make your commute easier.

I was going to buy something else for cash but Model Y currently has 0% APR so did that...

Elon is dead to me, and the different models of RAV4 have always had very solid reviews in terms of driveability and affordable maintenance... so for me it's a no-brainer.

There are plenty of good non-Tesla electric cars. Why debase yourself with that POS.

Model Y. Long range. Stop playing.
