Where in Montgomery County would you target?

What's the commute like, if any?

Homes are attractive. Schools are top notch. The commuter rail stop in Kensington goes directly to downtown DC. And you'll be a short drive to the new Purple Line on Connecticut Ave. The Red line Metro is also close.

1.2 won’t get you anything decent in Chevy Chase.

Not in WJ anymore.

Old Farm/ Lux Manor (maybe North Farm) is re-zoned for Woodward HS. Real Estate posts are still listing houses in these neighborhoods going to WJ which will not be true. People are trying to sell their houses at inflated prices to unsuspecting buyers.

It may fool some pople moving in from outside.

Rockville attending RM. You can get house in good shape, good school and close to lots of stuff.

Thanks all! This is helpful. For those asking, commute is Bethesda.

That is great. Many of the Bethesda, Potomac-ish, and W of 270 suggestions will work here. We are (will continue to be) zoned WJ and love it.

You could look along east-west highway. There is a nice neighborhood that feeds to Rock Creek Forest elementary (or you could look closer to Silver Spring).

If you have $1.2M to spend I would stay as far away from Silver Spring as possible.

We live in Silver Spring now and want better schools.

The anti-Silver Spring sentiment is very accurate in here. Crap schools, sketchy people, generally cheap housing stock.

I prefer living with my type in my Potomac-ish neighborhood west of 270 zoned for Churchill. But I’m also richer than most Silver Spring residents, so… idk what they should do if their budget isn’t like $900K at least. Cheap Rockville zoned for RM?

I moved 2 years ago from SS to Rockville, from Wheaton HS to Wootton (now Crown I guess). You can still get a SFH that needs a bit of work for $750k.

this thread is weird-- i've never heard the term "west of 270" before and it's repeated multiple times here. my neighborhood in Bethesda is before 270 even starts (as is true for all neighborhoods inside the beltway)

Yes, the prewar housing in Woodside Park is horrible and occupied by riff raff.

There’s a house coming up soon in my neighborhood.
