When is the immersion lottery posted?

Good luck everyone! We are current immersion parents and I remember the stress of the lottery results all too well. Just remember if you are on the waitlist for Spanish or French, it does move.

+1 although how much the waitlist moves are highly variable. I know SCES didn’t go as deep this year, for example.

The appeals page is live so assuming results coming soon-ish?

I’m back to thinking today. Between 11:45 and 2.

What does the appeals process actually do? Can you just try and convince them your child is special? Are they all normally denied?

I think they are normally denied but the process has to exist. In theory there are double entries for siblings and also some sort of weight mysteriously given to those from lower SEs. I’m not sure how you would suspect and follow up on a mistake, though.

Although I guess there’s also some programs with strong neighborhood preferences, so a mistake might be more easily spotted there. Plus there are a handful of sibling links still being grandfathered in, I believe (large families).

"If there are unique, verifiable reasons your student should be placed in an immersion program, you may submit an appeal. School proximity, early submission of application, and/or experience with the target language are important aspects but are not criteria for an appeal into an immersion program."

That's how they describe it. No idea if it ever gets used, though. Maybe some sort of special circumstances where the kid has an IEP and the immersion language is also their first language, or something like that?

Anyone have experience on the waitlist for K or 1st grades?

For Spanish & French waitlists:
K maybe up to 40

Second kid, second triple digit waitlist spot in the immersion program in our home school. God I hate this place. Having half-immersion, half-not immersion schools feels like the kind of idea the Ted Danson character would come up with in the Good Place. Here's to six more years of being treated like a second class citizen in our own school.

Your school treats non-immersion kids like second-class citizens? Seriously? I find that a little hard to believe... who cares what kids are in immersion or not?
