Additional to my prior post. Over my years teaching general music in FCPS, we have had some more local conductors. It really varies from year to year.

My child did this in 6th grade a few years ago. It was a great experience for the kids - my only complaint was that the Friday afternoon pickup was like kiss'n'ride on steroids. But, you know, first world problems...

And don’t forget that music teachers are not compensated for their time preparing for and chaperoning this event! Requires weekly rehearsals over several months plus a full Saturday working!
