How to listen to audio books without phone/ipad?

This is what I used with a 4th-6th grade boy with audhd, initially averse to reading, but by 6th was listening constantly and starting to ask for normal books as well as constant graphic novels:
apple watch (libby, audible)
alexa (kid/teen account, no purchasing, shared books)
old iphone, libby, parent controls
mp3 player
cd player (got my grandmother's huge player with 5 disc turnstile)
dvd player with computer monitor

We have a Yoto and my 9yo loves it. You can rip your own audio and add it to the cards, and there are some parental control options that effectively disable it after a certain time at night, if you choose.

Books on CD from the library and a CD player is probably the cheapest, low tech solution. Most library systems will let you put a hold on materials and deliver them to your neighbor branch, and there's usually not a wait for books on CD.
