2026 - 2027 RMSC Tryout dates

Are tryouts on those dates required for all ages and swimming abilities? If your kid is older and has a track record of times, do they still try out? I would think their times would speak for themselves.

If you’re looking to transfer in from another club, reach out to the coach for the site you are interested in. For older kids, if they are interested in adding your swimmer to the group they generally have them join a practice as opposed to coming to an open try out.

Is that true even for RMSC? I'd heard that RMSC requires everyone to go through the main tryout.

Yes, for the older kids at least. They may make 12 and under transfers go through a tryout, 13 and overs with high level times are not going to an open try out.

One thing a lot of people overlook is that legal does not necessarily equate to good/efficient stroke mechanics. IMO, it may be better for a 6yo to be legal in fewer strokes but to demonstrate really solid fundamentals in those strokes than to be legal in all 4 but to swim them inefficiently. This was my kid’s experience (made the team at just-turned-6) but as others have said, it really varies by year and site. I think, in a sense, the coaches know what they’re looking for.

It depends on the times. Only the top kids get that privilege.
