I personally don't believe so, I think it's somewhere between DJO and PVI. DJO is a bigger school so it's able to offer more APs overall and especially sciences, plus post-calc math and it lets kids go directly into Calc BC, while BI tops out at Calc and makes everyone take AB before BC. But at least BI is finally adding AP Physics 1 for next year and also finally letting kids double up on Geometry & Algebra 2 so they can get to Calc in the first place if they've been kept on a grade level math track, without cramming Geometry into a summer. All brand new for next year, so, too late for the upperclassmen but at least younger students can benefit. My impression is also partly based on how PVI has 4 levels of classes while BI and DJO have 3: regular/College Prep, Honors, or AP. PVI adds a General level below CP. Maybe that means that the levels above General are more rigorous than the equivalent at other schools, I have no idea. But the same student would most likely do as well at any of them with similar outcomes so this is really more of a paper thought exercise. Choose the closest one or best fit. |
I asked because my kid transferred from SJC to JR and had a 4.0 at SJC in all honors classes and didn't find the JR honor classes to be much different. Biggest difference is expectations of getting your assignments done on time (and losing grades for late work). Maybe BI is far more rigorous than SJC. |
I was thinking that the kid wanted to go to BI so he could continue playing basketball. Varsity sports at JR are very competitive - especially the basketball team. Would definitely stay at JR for academics and location. |
