There’s no such thing as being exempt from finals. It’s clearly stated on the syllabus that students must sit for the final exam. Troll. |
Wrong, troll. |
| take the days off and take kids to the pool. Kids want mom home on the last day of school and they don't want to go straight into a 1-2 day camp. |
|
Take the 18th off and do something summery to celebrate with your kids. Most work places are off the 19th.
We'll be leaving town the 17th for a beach weekend. |
I had a couple of camps give me a prorated fee for a few days if they were not full. Unfortunately DC in elementary school could not handle a few days in an unfamiliar place. I did not have a flexible job and it was very stressful. |
The pool is still way too cold in mid June. No thanks. |

You are looking for childcare for 2 days because you need to work and they have the day off, correct? This was us for years. No, not everyone gets off that federal holiday.
We used to send them to the local martial arts place, where you could do one day of camp. They had them whenever school was closed, for these or snow days. So did every after school program around us. There was a coding place and and art school too. |

HS Level- kids will be in finals so they should not miss.
ES Level- kids will be doing nothing academic so feel free to pull them. MS Level- A toss up. Check in with individual teachers to see what is going on. |
Pay for five days only to go two? Absolute waste of money!!! |
| What do you usually do for childcare, OP? |
| Now that work flexibility has been removed for many parents, FCPS needs to get with the program and fix their calendars. These random days off and chopped up calendars are something the could get away with when people had the ability to flex hours, but those days are no more. |
+1. We send our kids to a martial arts place during the school year, and they provide coverage for those 2 days. There are also several drop-in childcare places around. Or you could hire a high schooler to babysit your kids. I'm surprised you are having trouble figuring this out, OP. |
| I’m going to take my kid probably to summer swim practice, then let them hang out with their friends. |
I wish! |
That is a very privileged response. In years past SACC would remain open the rest of the week. They have hopped on the FCPS “let’s close for all the things” bandwagon and end the last day of school instead of 6/18. (Juneteenth is a Fairfax County holiday, so they were already off that day.) |
