This is getting so tiring


The first time I heard of this supposed possibility was a New Yorker profile in summer 2022 about "Effective Altruism". The concern was that these supposedly optimizing people had to push more funds into preventing outsized potential long term issues like AI going bonkers, and focus less on current problems they might want to fix.

It then goes on to talk about the philosophical supporters of the movement like:

Sam Bankman Fried
Elon Musk

So...yeah probably not as ethical as they would make themselves out to be.

+1 It hasn't hit yet, but the scale of damage can be astronomical.
