I need a dental implant: do you have one, or anyone you know?

Anonymous
I do! Have had it (front incisor) for almost 10 years now. Very similar story, had a root canal after a chip thanks to someone bumping into me while I was drinking from a glass bottle. That failed some 15 years later and the tooth broke.
There was some pain post extraction but I had a great endodontist. (Retired now) 4 months later, they put in the implant; another 5 months later, the crown and post.
The most annoying part of it was having to wear the flipper, honestly. Another minor annoyance was having to coordinate with the dentist/ endodontist, but i understand it doesn’t have to be that way.

I’m worried about the rare but devastating possibility of causing lifetime migraines or other painful complications.

The flipper or appliance keeps ths other teeth from moving because of the gap. It's not just cosmetic.

DH had one, lower front tooth. It took almost a year because they waited longer to let the bone graft be ready for the post. Honestly I am not sure I could do it.

It is not covered by insurance. Will likely run you 10k. And it's not always going to work out as planned.

The biggest downside to wearing a flipper is that you have to remove it everytime you eat.

I need a tooth implant as well - - need to have my top premolar replaced.
I wish I could afford to do it but my insurance won’t cover it & I cannot afford it on my own.

But I am self-conscious to be missing a tooth when I smile or laugh.

I know several people who got dental implants in Colombia for around 3k.

I have 3, the first one was 20+ years ago. They are fine, no problems at all. They are better than my real teeth, actually.

Can you get a bridge?

What is covered depends on your specific insurance. My dental plan has three tiers and for years I just had the lowest. I switched from the lowest to the highest tier because some of the implant work would be covered (more than half of the final amount). The timing worked out because I broke the tooth in the fall shortly before open season enrollment for the next year started, and due to the timing and separate billing for different phases the bulk of the work would be in the following year and therefore covered. (Plus dentist said both my kids should have wisdom teeth removed, which would be covered fully in highest tier plan.)

The only annoying thing about my implant is the process of flossing around it. I was told you have to floss deeply to make sure you get that area clean. And whenever I eat that area tends to trap food.

which would be covered fully in highest tier plan

Delta Dental, but I'm not in DMV.

Same, but totally worth the extra effort to be able to chew and eat normally.

Mine was covered by insurance and I paid about $1500 after insurance was done. That included the crown part too. The total was like 4k or so before insurance, not 10k.

Get a waterpik! I LOVE mine. It does a very good job of cleaning between teeth and getting bacteria right under the gum line.
