What does that even mean? |
| I assume PP means unresolved racial bias. Agree or disagree on the actual outcome, it was pretty clear that Rita Montoya hates Asians. I am not using that word lightly. The sad thing is, as someone who supports the vote, what Rita did completely backfired. |
Has MCPS presented any data on the interest-based DCC programs like VAPA? It's insane to me they are dissolving the DCC and NEC without more explanation. |
Yea…Rita did not do herself any favors yesterday… |
+1 I'm for H, but she was out of line. I hate that people just throw the word racist willy nilly. It's lost its meaning. |
She doesn’t care. |
No, and the teacher program was shut down two years ago at Einstein due to a lack of interest, and now they are bringing it back. Einstein loses staff every year, so how is all of this going to work with bringing it back? VAPA needs far more funding and teachers. |
+1 Nothing else is there to see. |

I am really concerned about the regional model because it seems so rushed. What makes them think they can hire qualified teachers for all these specialties? They already cannot hire qualified computer science or language teachers. And when they tried to expand the IB program it was an utter failure because it turns out you can’t snap your fingers and have qualified IB teachers. They r got a “if you build it, they will come” attitude that just seems to me to be magical thinking. The races of the kids involved have no bearing on my concern - I just think this whole thing seems like something dreamed up for an ed PhD thesis without any concept of how it will work in practice or whether it will improve outcomes.
After 15 years in McPS, my conclusion is that what the system needs is (in this order): 1) smaller class sizes especially for classes teaching reading and writing; 2) the best teachers money, and respect (which is sometimes worth more than money) will buy; 3) adequate planning and grading time for teachers — I would trade off instructional time for this!!!!; 4) consistent curriculum that doesn’t chase trends; 5) increased in school security for MS and HS so disruptive kids are in the halls or bathrooms; and 6) physical plant improvements so kids aren’t boiling/freezing/dodging rats. We are wasting time and money chasing dumb educational trends instead of fixing what’s broken. |
It means that she has not scrutinized her the personal beliefs about people from other racial or cultural backgrounds. She perpetuates stereotypes, making broad assumptions, in this case about the community members who were protesting Wootton's moving from its current location and people protesting a regional program system. |

I don’t have any stakes in this so this is from an outside perspective but, why be so defensive that this is totally gonna work in an online forum that’s anonymous? If your case is so rock solid why the need to prove it here?
You may be right that you’ll cause an avalanche and win, but you have to admit that there has been a consistent degree of triumphalism from Wootton people since day 1 that makes people doubtful. The certainty that all the objections would lead Taylor to not choose Option H. The certainty that threatening to not vote for board candidates would alter the vote. Etc. Your certainty here may be placed correctly, but the track record across these past few months, you have to admit, will make outsiders doubt you unless you share compelling evidence. |
| Montoya has a hard time getting along with people. The staff that work with the BOE mostly don't like her. She made someone on that staff cry - don't know details on that, but if that's true, that is dumb behavior on Montoya's part. |
I'm not a Montoya fan, but it's not hard to make MCPS staff cry or break down. Just asking direct questions and for meaningful follow-ups makes many of them crumble. |
