Rec hockey is so bad that co-ed is fine until 14U when they start checking, then depending on your daughter, you may need to move her to a girls travel team. That said, there are still girls who play AA hockey with boys through older ages.

STJ, Potomac, and MYHA had "Girls Select" teams as part of the rec programs. I'm not sure if this is still the case, but my daughter had a blast participating in those. It added games every other weekend, several jamborees, and a tournament at the Carousel Hotel in OC MD.
